Should I buy Silicone Products?

Why is it so hard to figure out if something is environmentally friendly. It isn't always so cut and dry anymore. And I think Silicone is in one of these grey areas. So, let's just break down what I've found and where it fall short in real analysis.

First, Silicone comes from Silica which is essentially sand. So, seeing that sand is pretty prevalent, I presume that we have more of that than hydro-carbons. A quick search and it turns out we are running out of Sand, but we are running out of hydro-carbons as well. So, in a world of finite resources, we will always run out.
